It's marked @Deprecated because at the time I wasn't certain we wouldn't
change the API in a later release, but I plan to remove that marking.
It currently has a flaw in that it doesn't transition to
ControlledProcessState.State.STOPPING at the correct time in the case of a soft kill
(Ctrl-C, kill -3). See
