In order to run the qa test, I seems to have to run
'ant dist' first. This takes about 7 minutes on my machine.
Anyone know of a quicker way?

The QA tests are *supposed* to run against a distribution, hence dist is
required. Not sure why it takes 7 minutes on your machine though.

You certainly don't need the zip files but you do need the distribution.
Is the generation of the zips really adding so much time to your build?
IIRC the addition of the zips happened around the same time as the esb
server was added to the build, not sure why that was done the way it was
though.

P.S. a dist on my machine takes less than three minutes and the largest
component is the generation of the javadocs, not the zips. We can
certainly speed up the build but I would guess that speeding up the
javadoc generation would give you a better experience.

To see what? They are doing a clean build and generating everything
from scratch and even they aren't affected as much by the zips as you
appear to be :)

The linux host is a paravirtualised xen vm whereas the windows host is a
vmware vm. The paravirtualised one should be faster than the vmware one
before anything else is taken into account. Plus they are competing
with other VMs on the same machines.
In any case the creation of the zips is *not* the major factor in the build.

I have just moved the creation of the zips into another target, called
by the CI integration build. On my machine it reduced a clean build
time by around 16 secs.
Does this make a big difference on yours?

By VMs I am referring to xen/vmware images and not java VMs :)
The linux box has five (plus the host os) whereas the windows one has at
least three (plus the host os).
