Thanks for the input, yusuke. :-) I think having a pluggable policy-based approach is best, where one policy implemenation provides the behavior you describe. See somewhat related discussion at http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=135735 . Even with what you describe though, I think there needs to be the ability to shut down a problem node without having to shut down the entire cluster. A shut down involves an undeploy, so we'd still need to solve the issues described here. Re: using the 3.3 version of hibernate-testing, I think it's a valid workaround to make progress. If we don't like it later we can always port the needed classes in hibernate-jbc-cacheprovider. +1 on getting Steve's opinion. Re: the name, hibernate-jbc-cacheprovider and the package name sound good. Re: the Item class et al, I suspect when I first created them they were not in hibernate-testing but rather the hibernate testsuite module, on which cache-jbosscache2 couldn't depend (it would have been circular). Steve probably later moved them to hibernate-testing. I know he moved other stuff I needed. If the hibernate-testing ones work, that's fine. The 'problem' as it manifests here is one of our own construction. We generate the vfs handles from known components and one of those is a prefix encoding the war/ear name which ends in something of the form ...xxx.ear/ and the other is a manifest Class-Path entry which is either of the form /yyy/zzz or of the form yyy/zzz. The priority here is to honour the fact that either format used to work with the previous loader by making the current one compatible. We could achieve this either by constructing something the current tokenizer will eat (i.e. removing any repeated slash) or by making it less picky. However, I would assume that we are not at liberty to define the format of the trailing component. If we let the tokenizer elide all repeated slashes this would make it accept manifest Class-Path entries which had previously been rejected. I don't think we should break any existing standard (whether de jure or de facto) unless we really need to.
