I'm pretty sure there's more to it than that. I've just done the same thing (but not committed it) and there are a few extra failures in the VFS testsuite (which already had 15 failures????!!!!!). I've fixed the extra issue which is in ZipEntryContext.initRootAndPath() not decoding the URL properly, but it doesn't seem to have resolved the original problem. The real issue is why it thinks the jar is a leaf, which I couldn't debug yesterday because the codebases were majorly out-of-synch. That's what I told you yesterday. The URL you are returning is not valid. Its a packed jar not a directory. Seems I can't avoid wasting time on repetition. [Design of POJO Server] - Regression on VirtualFile.toURL()

Because of a regression in VFS where virtualFile.toURL() used to return 'vfszip:/tmp/ejb3_pkg_scope.ear/ejb3_pkg_scope.jar' and is now returning 'vfszip:/tmp/ejb3_pkg_scope.ear/ejb3_pkg_scope.jar/' JPA deployers doesn't get the Persistence Unit root URL anymore. This is most harmful for jar-file entries in persistence xml which are supposed to be relative to that URL. Thus resulting in entries like 'vfszip:/tmp/ejb3_pkg_scope.ear/ejb3_pkg_scope.jar/lib/common.jar' instead of 'vfszip:/tmp/ejb3_pkg_scope.ear/lib/common.jar'. I say this needs to be fixed soon. You can cache the session in the managementservice which has a well defined start and stop, and all the controls can use the same session. it's crazy how such a trivial change can be more complex than envisioned. If I want to cache the client session for the duration of the management object life, I also need to close it cleanly at the end of its life. I can't do that from JMX (the method is not exposed from the mbean) so I need to keep a registry of these objects in the ManagementServiceImpl so that I can close their client session properly when unregistering the resource. I agree that the code as it is is a performance killer. But what kind of performance are we talking about? This code will be called every time a mbean operation is invoked which means that there will be a network trip between the JMX client and the server every time. This seems to me like premature optimization. In that specific case, I'd prefer to trade performance for code simplicity (i.e. create the client session for every invocation).
