osgi packaging

Hello, is OSGI packaging of Jboss rules artifacts planned? Currently drools bundles are provided by various 3rd parties e.g. servicemix, springsource but it would be nice to have 'official' bundles of latest versions with e.g. correct optional import It shouldn't be hard to do, as maven is used in building process - just a matter of maven-bundle-plugin configuration. br, maciek

There is still lots more to do, but it at least now allows for end to end working examples. The latest build that includes this work can be found from hudson here: https://hudson.jboss.org/hudson/job/drools/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/t... So how does it work. Lets look at the unit test for more details. The beans.xml <http://fisheye.jboss.org/browse/JBossRules/trunk/drools-container/drools-...> provides a configuration for KnowledgeBases, StatefulKnowledgeSession, StatelessKnowledgeSession and the ServiceManager. KnowledgeBases can be confired from a list of resources, that work in the same way that changeset xml does. This allows resources to be pulled from any URL resolveble location, be it classpath, localdisk or from artifacts published from Guvnor: <drools:kbase id="kbase1"> <drools:resource source="classpath:org/drools/container/spring/testSpring.drl" type="DRL"/> <drools:resource source="classpath:org/drools/container/spring/IntegrationExampleTest.xls" type="DTABLE"> <drools:decisiontable-conf input-type="XLS" worksheet-name="Tables_2"/> </drools:resource> </drools:kbase> The above xml shows a KnowledgeBase configured from a DRL and a XLS, remember we could have added DRFs if we wanted workflow in there too. That KnowledgeBase is now a bean that can be referenced via the id "kbase1". From that bean we can now create sessions. The "type" attribute specifies whether the session is stateful or stateless: <drools:ksession id="ksession1" type="stateless" kbase="kbase1"/> <drools:ksession id="ksession2" type="stateful" kbase="kbase1"/> Those sessions are now beans and can be injected into your own classes using Spring annotations, or used to configure up a Drools ServiceManager. <drools:serviceManager id="sm1"> <drools:register name="stateless1" ref="ksession1"/> <drools:register ref="ksession2"/> </drools:serviceManager> The ServiceManager is a new class that I haven't mentioned before that will be in the upcoming Drools 5.1. The ServiceManager can be worked with both locally and remotely. It allows sessions to be created and registered all seamlessly, whether it's local or remote and those sessions are also exposed both locally and remotely. This ties in with the Camel <http://camel.apache.org/>work we are doing to make it easy to work with Drools out of the box in a service and remoting environment and should hopefully provide the ultimate in event driven architectures. I'll blog more on those pieces as they fall into place. drools and google app engine

I saw an earlier post where someone ran into file access issues deploying the Drools engine on Google's platform. It seems like a relatively simple task to overcome this with an aspect and a weave. But before I attempt it, I was curious if anyone had managed to get Drools running in the app engine environment? If so, was that the only issue encountered and what was the level of effort? I was thinking it might be a fun learning exercise to leverage GAE and CEP in the creation of Google Wave Robots. I know, I have too much time on my hands. cheers, -Jess

Drools Flow and Seam Integration

Hello! I've learned from thiswillwill post<http://blog.athico.com/2009/06/seam-drools-integration.html> that there will be Drools Flow support in Seam. My team chose to use JBPM instead of Drools Flow because of the poor integration between Drools Flow and Seam. I'd like to know exactly what level of integration you guys are planning to implement. Will there be features like process persistence managing and Annotation-based management (Like @StartTask and the like) ? Is there any guesses on how far in the future this integration is? MVEL in functions?

Hey is mvel in functions broken? I have a distant memory of something along these lines. is there a way to get "declare"s out of the working memory?

Hi, since Drools 5 it is possible to define a dynamic variable holder by using the declare notation. This feature is really cool. I can create easily helper rules, that calculate temporary values: File: calculate_total_amount.drl declare TotalAmount amount : Money end rule "calculate total amount" when .. then TotalAmount totalAmount = new TotalAmount(); totalAmount.setAmount($calculatedAmount); insert(totalAmount); end Inside another file I use this helper. File: another_rule.drl rule "another rule" when TotalAmount( amount > 1000) then // do s.th. end I unit test my rule by querying a fact and verify my assertions. This works fine, as long as the fact is a class of my factmodel. Now my question: Is there a way to query a declared class (in this case TotalAmount) I tried it with some variations but without success: import my.package.of.the.rule; query "get total amount" amount : TotalAmount() end I thought that a declare is compiled to a class, but I can not find it in the generated classes. Did you have any help? An alternative might be to create a holder class. S.th. like that rule "calculate total amount" .. then TotalAmount totalAmount = new TotalAmount(); totalAmount.setAmount($calculatedAmount); insert(totalAmount); Holder holder = new Holder(); holder.setObject(totalAmount); insert(holder); end import my.package.holder; query "get holder" holder : Holder() end Thanks in advance, Leif
