For 2.0, if the approach we want to take is to allow Hibernate to pass in some object that can control the ordering of synchronization execution, I suggest we pass this in via the InvocationContext. This avoids issues with different EJB3/Hibernate deployments stepping on each other if they are using a shared cache. I've had a quick look and some of the aop-mc-int tests are failing. AFAICT we always have a MetaData passed in to AOP now, whereas before the presence of a MetaDataContext determined if we should create an instance proxy or not. I have experimented with the following in AOPConstructorJoinPoint: | ... | MetaData metaData = MetaDataStack.peek(); | MetaDataStack.mask(); | try | { | | MetaData md = getNonEmptyMetaData(metaData); | ContainerCache cache = ContainerCache.initialise(manager, clazz, md); | ... | | | private MetaData getNonEmptyMetaData(MetaData metaData) | { | if (metaData == null) | { | return null; | } | | if (metaData.getAnnotations() != MetaData.NO_ANNOTATIONS) | { | return metaData; | } | | return null; | } | However, I have so far found 2 issues with this. 1) In the case of property annotations, the call to getAnnotations() returns NO_ANNOTATIONS. Where/how do I get hold of the property annotations? MetaData.getComponentMetaData() currently needs the signature as an argument. I could of course iterate over all the methods, and obtain the component metadata's for each of them, but am not sure if this is "clean" enough. ----- 2) In the case of real annotations, e.g. @Blah class Test{} @Blah is now part of the MetaData, and so I am wrongly creating an instance proxy. ------- In other words I need a good way to determine the annotations, and to discover what level they come from. This in turn raises the question, what is the cutoff level for added metadata to cause an instance proxy to be created? I would very strongly recommend getting familiar with Doug Lea's concurrent classes: For 1.4: http://g.oswego.edu/dl/classes/EDU/oswego/cs/dl/util/concurrent/intro.html For 1.5: Look in java.util.concurrent. In my experience it is very unusual to have to write your own synchronisation primitives since most things are available there. Well, the Jboss AS has multiple binary files but they track less versions. I can change the tool for the needs of JBossCache to generate a single binary file or multiple XML files or something else... Whatever you wish. So we've got a new ManagedObject api from Adrian. The underlying implementation is still being worked on http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/jbossas/projects/microcontainer/trunk/mana... Also I understand that the meta data repository notion continues to be fleshed out: >From Scott: "The two things to complete are getting the attachments for the base deployments stored in the repository, and then obtaining the attachments for a ManagedObject update to store as overrides." Questions about next steps: 1) Does the additional work on the repository outlined above prevent progress on writing tests for the use cases we're going to need wrt basic DataSource management? I presume that the work remaining would actually prevent the tests from passing, but thats the next step :-). I guess we could stub out aspects of the repository to get the test to pass, but at the moment I'm more interested in the tests being written than having them pass. 2) Should the org.jboss.deployers.spi.management.ManagementView be updated to use the new ManagedObject api? 3) The tests for the DataSource use cases should go in here? http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/jbossas/trunk/system/src/tests/org/jboss/t... The lock I mentioned is what is happening inside acquire. look at the thread dump I posted before.
