Metadata that is not directly related to description of the process should not leak into the jPDL namespace. Instead, a seperate namespace should be used for these orthogonal concerns. Jamming all GPD properties in a single attribute seems quite complex to me. How about a nested optional element in the jPDL namespace to contain the GPD properties separately? For example: <state> | <gpd width="100" length="100" color="fuschia" /> | </state> Advantages: * Because the gpd element is optional, there is no need for a separate GPD namespace. * You do not need to jam different GPD properties in a single attribute. * The contents of the gpd element can be described in a schema, so you get code completion and validation at parsing time. This is not possible with a single attribute. I don't like the idea of copying. I'd recommend for now doing something like the following, Maintain a ConcurrentHashSet of refs in the queue as well as the normal PriorityLinkedList. As ref is added to queue, if it has a non zero expiry time then add it to that set too. On acknowledge remove from set too. Then the expiry thread can iterate that set without any problems. definitely not introduce a gpd namespace... ha... haaa... HATCHOU ! for this alpha 1 release, a jpdl 4 namespace reference is it's not yet a must. we can postpone that. let's look at this on friday. does this have more impact then just updating the template used in the new jPDL 4 process wizard ? [Design of POJO Server] - Profile Service api

CORE PROFILE SERVICE As far as the core profile api goes this doesn't look too bad. It still has the VFSDeployment and DeploymentPhase stuff in there, I think we can live with that (its a bit too close to the implementation details for my liking). The part that I think is missing is the ability to add/remove profiles. My original idea for profiles was that the profile could be implemented how you like (picking from existing implementations or writing your own). The current api only allows you to create/remove implementations dictated by the profile service itself. You can see this problem in the way the farming stuff done by Brian is using the DeploymentManager of the profile service rather than adding his own sub-profile. But you can also see it in that there is no current support for sub-profiles at all really or activation/deactivation of these (the deployment phase was originally done as a hack until sub-profiles were implemented). The one part that really does look broken to me is the following method on the Profile interface. VirtualFile getRootFile(DeploymentPhase phase) throws Exception; This has no meaning when there are multiple roots. Since its use seems to be a location where template deployments get constructed this also looks broken if the profile is "read-only" by which I mean only admin overrides in the local repository are allowed not modification of the original source location. What is the outcome of this discussion now? Is there a 'gpd' namespace or not? Do I use the attribute 'g' and encode all the information I need in there to keep the language simple or do I use a verbose set of elements in which all the graphical information is rather explicit? Tom and I opted for the simplicity (meaning a 'g' attribute in the 'jpdl' namespace) which has been one of our assets until now. Later on, and if needed, we would always be able to add more advanced constructs.
