+1 as this would reduce one step of installing the DB for quick example.
and we can have scripts to install all this better than what we have
now.

Going back in time, the original intention of the example was to highlight typical steps,
urls, etc. and possibly rely on a derby instance being installed already as part of the MM
demo install. Derby of course can also be run in an embedded mode.
