The problem looks to be the memory leak fixed here: https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBCL-85 Meaning the regressions are not related to the VFS but to the update of the classloader to 2.0.3-SNAPSHOT. If does not completely fix it, then we can always remove the JBCL-80 change from the 2.0.x branch of the classloader since Kabir isn't using it (yet) in the AOP version currently in JBossAS. I cannot reproduce JBAS-6489, but have some clues from the AS logs. Once I have downloaded the Hudson workspace, it shouldn't take too long to fix. The download is still going :-( In the meantime, I have downloaded and installed Parallels, and Fedora 10 into that along with the other bits and pieces needed to run the tests on linux, and I cannot reproduce there either. Are you running this singly or as part of the jboss-all-config-tests test target? That was the issue with other test regressions we've seen with 5.0.1. They would pass running singly but not "collectively". I can finally reproduce the error by running jboss-all-config-tests. I've managed to narrow it down enough to be able to reproduce it by running "./build.sh tests-webservice tests-aspects" against a freshly started server in the "all" config. I'll keep digging.... I have updated AS Branch_5_0 to use AOP 2.0.1-SNAPSHOT which seems to fix the problem my end. *JBAS-6482 will be fixed by the MC upgrade *JBAS-6489 will be fixed by the AOP upgrade. Yesterday's snapshot fix was basically just hiding the symptoms of http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4209555#... . I am making another fix to make AOP more resilient to this sort of stuff, which I'm about to test, so everything should be ok from the AOP side, although I think the underlying issue should be solved as well. Errors like this make me think that maven snapshots are generally a bad idea. Awhile back someone (DML I think?) suggested using timestamp releases instead (i.e. module-1234484452.jar). This would guarantee that a given build for a source revision is always reproducible. In addition you can actually rollback to a previous timestamp version should something go wrong. Thoughts? So you update the users of those components to those particular build versions? One of the problems with snapshots currently is that you don't know a particular build which snapshot is using (at least not by looking into the hudson "changes" tab). Plus you have to trigger the build manually, as nothing changes in the project itself. https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBAS-6489 is proving problematic. I cannot reproduce it locally, having tried a variety of JDK 6 version on my Fedora 10 installation. We upgraded to the latest JDK 6 on Hudson for http://hudson.qa.jboss.com/hudson/view/JBoss%20AS/job/JBoss-AS-5.0.x-test... , but the tests still fails there. Flavia has also tried to reproduce it, but it works for her as well. Dimitris/Jason/Shelly, are any of you able to try?

The main purpose of the release is to fix the tmp file handling by VFS. Ales' changes are supposed to do that, although they break other things. As it is now we are deadlocked. Thomas' changes on this build were only testsuite ones, and the previous build before that succeeded. It's a deadlock because we cannot release without a fixed VFS, while "fixing" VFS breaks other stuff so we cannot release :)
